In and On Bench

In and On Bench is a, 5' x 16" x 20", custom designed and built entertainment center for our old small apartment and is now our coffee table in our house. I developed this piece out of as much native scrap wood I could find. Made of black walnut, ash, hickory, oak, bungee chord, mild steel, concrete, and basalt lake stone; this contemporary furniture piece holds a wealth of our personal items. With multiple areas for storage: this piece uses bungee chord as cabinet doors as a fun way of interacting with the piece. The two flower pots are concrete that were cast out of a plaster mold we developed; one pot sits in a hole and the other sits on a shelf. One lake stone leg was mortise and tenoned into the piece and is used to demonstrate the furniture's connection to its surroundings: Milwaukee and Great Lakes area. This piece is fun to make and energizes any space.
