Outreach Bus Stop

Cost:  25,000 USD

Sq Ft: 250

A cold and ordinary bus stop bench outside of the new Outreach Community Health Clinic is to become integrated with its surroundings and accommodate more passengers; creating an area that keeps you warm, is informational, feels safe, and connects the path from the bus to the front doors of the clinic in a unique way.

I used geographical context to inspire the design; Corner Bakery Café, Shechem, and the Outreach Building are the newest buildings in proximity. It is these buildings that are transitioning the existing area into what it is currently; they have ‘set a tone’, if you will. Native flora backs the robust architectural form, walls, benches, and ceilings offer shelter and comfort. The pavilion-like shelter offers an enjoyable stopping point among the urban setting.

Initially letting my creativity run free, a series of parti diagrams were developed and analyzed for its practical application at 210 W Capitol Dr. The far right parti fit best considering the geographical context. These 20’ long shelters are prefabricated, meant to flatstack nicely on a semi, delivered to the site, pieces rolled off the truck, and assembled within a day.
